What the company NIF is, why a foreign entity cannot trade without one, and how to obtain it remotely in 1–2 business days.
The NIF is the tax number that identifies any company operating in Spain. A foreign entity with no permanent establishment receives the N98 variant, registered with the Agencia Tributaria through the Modelo 036.
There are no notarised or translated documents to produce, and nobody has to travel — a representative files for the company under a power of attorney.
Once the number is issued, it is what makes selling, property purchases, VAT, EPR and a Spanish corporate bank account possible.
